Kimono-clad ground crew with All Nippon Airways (ANA) greeted passengers at Narita Airport to celebrate the first day of flights for the year.
It has been an annual custom for young ANA employees to wear kimono to meet arriving and departing passengers on New Year's Day.
This year, ground staff members posed for commemorative pictures with foreign passengers, while helping passengers carry their suitcases and carts in traditional Japanese sandals called "zori."
"Since I usually wear a uniform, I feel very New Year-ish by putting on a kimono," said Ai Kurimoto, a 23-year-old ANA ground staff member. "I'd like to work in a kimono again if I have the chance," she added.
Kimono-dressed crewmembers also attended to customers on the second day of the new year.
